Hello! My name is Tuya Elwy and I am an American Egyptian that grew up in-between the Middle East and the United States. My interest in this project was born out of a love for dark room photography, travel, art integrity, and philosophy. I became very interested in Lee Miller’s life when I found out that we shared the same passion for traveling and exploring new cultures. In particular, knowing that we both had experienced the Siwa Oasis in the Western Desert, Alexandria, and Cairo in Egypt made me feel even more connected to Lee. I have lived and worked in New Zealand, Colombia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and the U.A.E. and I currently reside in the United States where I received my BA in Philosophy.

I am indebted to many people who have helped make this project possible: the Vogue Archives in New York, the New York Public Library, the Archivists at Philadelphia Museum of Art, Devin Pownall, Tom and Kathleen Dwyer, Sylvia Mikkelsen, Jack Baird and Melina Elwy.
